Dear Fellow Portlander,
One of the things that makes Portland the city we love is a unique combination between enduring values and progressive innovation. These values include protecting our natural beauty and environment, a respect for the dignity and rights of our neighbors, and a city government that is open to citizen involvement. At the same time, we are leading the way in sustainability, supporting smart transportation choices and parks for vibrant neighborhoods and making investments in our children that will help them – and our community – become more successful.
As your City Commissioner, I have worked hard to represent those values, and to foster those innovations. In the website you can see examples of what we have been working on and some priorities for the future. I use the word “we,” because what we have accomplished, we have accomplished together.
But while we have had successes, I am acutely aware of the challenges we are facing. The national recession has hit us hard, and too many Portland families are struggling. I am focused on helping improve our economy and bring more jobs to Portland. I have always insisted on accountability at all levels of city government, but understand that work is never done.
I am asking for your vote to keep working on your behalf – for a city that protects what should endure, and meets our challenges with creativity and commitment. With your support, I will continue to work hard, ask the tough questions and never let politics come before doing what’s right for Portland.
